DHAKA: In the latest development, several senior generals have been shuffled in the top tiers of Bangladesh Army.

Defense Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) commandant Maj. Gen. Md Saiful Abedin has been appointed as the new director general of military intelligence body DGFI.

He will replace Maj. Gen. Mohammad Akbar Hossain, who has been made the GOC of 9th Infantry Division at Savar.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 9th Infantry Division at Savar Maj. Gen Waqar-uz-Zaman has been appointed as military secretary of the Bangladesh Army replacing Maj. Gen. Abdullahil Baki.

Besides, Maj. Gen. Md Nazimuddin, current GOC of 55 Infantry Division and Jessore area commander, has been made the chief of general staff (CGS).

He will replace Lt. Gen. Sabbir Ahmed, who is currently on Leave Preparatory to Retirement (LPR).

Maj. Gen. Ataul Hakim Sarwar Hasan, GOC of 10th Infantry Division at Ramu, has been appointed as log area commander at Dhaka Cantonment while Maj. Gen. Maksud, previously deputy force commander of UN missions, will lead the division.

Brig. Gen. Nayeem Ashfaque Chowdhury, director military operations (DMO), has been promoted to major general and made the head of 55th Infantry Division stationed in Jessore.

The Ministry of Defence issued an order relating to the new appointments on Thursday, according to the ISPR.
